NY Times Reporter Whines on NBC: They Never Dug Deep Enough on Trump’s Russian Ties

The conservative and conservative-leaning half of the country might suggest the liberal press beat the dead horse of the Trump-and-Russia issue into a fine paste. But on Monday’s Today, NBC substitute co-host Willie Geist brought on New York Times reporter Michael Schmidt to promote his new book, Donald Trump v. The United States.

They discussed Schmidt’s big point about an out-of-control president, as the book jacket gushes: “What do you do, and who do you call, if you are the only one standing between the president, his extraordinary powers, and the abyss?” His book “tells the dramatic, high-stakes story of those who felt compelled to confront and try to contain the most powerful man in the world as he shredded norms and sought to expand his power.”

Then Schmidt insisted Robert Mueller just didn’t dig deep enough over two years. The Russia hunt is never “robust” enough if Trump hasn’t been impeached yet.

GEIST: You talk about the Justice Department never really fully examining President Trump’s connections to Russia. There was of course the Mueller investigation initiated by the Justice Department. So how did they not actually dig deep enough into those connections if you believe that’s what happened?

MICHAEL SCHMIDT: So a lot of what’s gone on with Russia is probably hard to understand for the average person. One of the biggest questions is Trump’s ties to Russia, his longstanding personal and financial ties. So what has been looked at is — The FBI in 2017 opened up a counterintelligence investigation to the president. They believed there needed to be a deep examination of the president’s ties to Russia. Were there business dealings or personal relationships that went back decades that could be potentially compromising him? But what happened in the end is that despite all the things that have been looked at about the president, this issue never got the full examination from the Mueller investigation that many people probably thought that it did.

What happens is that after this investigation is over, the top Justice Department official overseeing the FBI looks at this, and believes it is a fishing expedition, and doesn’t believe something as robust as this should go on and it makes it harder for FBI counterintelligence investigators to ultimately dig deep into that question. And as we head into the election here, from the public standpoint, there still has never been a full accounting of the president’s ties to Russia. There was a Senate report a few weeks ago. But that, as many senators on the panel, the intelligence committee panel from the Senate said, it only scratched the surface.

One of Schmidt’s on-the-record sources for this lament is fired acting FBI director Andrew McCabe, who was was fired from the top of the FBI for…lying his face off to the FBI about all his anti-Trump leaking to reporters. McCabe’s book in 2019 created headlines like this, from a CNN interview: “McCabe: It’s possible Donald Trump is a Russian agent.” We called him “the Justice Department’s Jussie Smollett.”

COVER UP? The Hill Defends Biden on Fracking, Ignores Past Comments

Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden just contradicted himself by claiming he was “not banning fracking.” Liberal outlet The Hill not only defended it but accused President Donald Trump of falsely stating Biden’s position.

Biden pretended Monday in Pennsylvania: “I am not banning fracking. Let me say that again: I am not banning fracking. No matter how many times Donald Trump lies about me.” The Hill parroted this, and crazily said that “Throughout the Republican National Convention last week, speakers attacked Biden’s climate and energy plan, offering a number of misleading comments.” At the bottom of the piece, The Hill said that Trump “falsely stated” during the Republican National Convention that “‘Biden has promised to abolish the production of American oil, coal, shale and natural gas.’”

Watch Biden’s comments below:

The Hill brazenly argued: “Biden’s climate plan calls for ending new oil and gas leases on public lands, but it would not ban oil drilling and does not bar any specific method for extracting fossil fuels.”

The article completely ignored mentioning Biden’s own comments to CNN’s Dana Bash during the second Democratic Presidential debate last year, where Biden said he would make sure both fracking and fossil fuels would be “eliminated:”

BASH: Just to clarify. Would there be any place for fossil fuels, including coal and fracking, in a Biden administration?”

BIDEN: No. We would work it out. We would make sure it’s eliminated and no more subsidies for either one of those. Either — any fossil fuel.

During the March 15, 2020 Democratic presidential debate, Biden said of fracking: “No more — no new fracking.” The Washington Post headlined its video grab: “Biden indicates from the debate stage that he would ban all fracking.” [Emphasis added.]

Grabien News founder Tom Elliot cut a video of Biden saying at a New Hampshire event in February: “We are going to get rid of fossil fuels.” In January, Joe Biden said in a video that he would end fracking in an exchange with a New Hampshire voter.

PROSPECTIVE VOTER: But like, what about, say, stopping fracking?”

PROSPECTIVE VOTER: … pipeline infrastructure?

The Hill initially didn’t mention any of this. It instead said that “Biden’s climate plan calls for ending new oil and gas leases on public lands, but it would not ban oil drilling and does not bar any specific method for extracting fossil fuels.” [Emphasis added.] The article was later stealth-edited to include a brief note on Biden’s comments during the March 15 debate: “[Biden] caused confusion during the March Democratic debate by saying he would not support ‘new fracking.'” No editor’s note was included on the addition.

The Hill also attempted to isolate Biden’s energy plan away from his former Democratic challengers as being less radical:

Biden’s climate plan wasn’t as bold as some of his earlier Democratic challengers, but it is still the most ambitious climate plan ever put forth by a presidential nominee.

Contact The Hill Editorial department at and demand they correct the record on Biden’s past support for banning fracking.

CNN: Obama Offered Counsel to NBA Protesters During ‘American Crisis’

CNN Obama NBA bannerCNN portrayed it as an “American crisis”: NBA players receiving counsel from their favorite former president — Barack Obama. At his bidding, the league lurched even further to the Left. At the same time, former NFL player/protester Colin Kaepernick thanked the NBA for moving the ball forward in the fight against systemic racism.

CNN showed a photo (right) of the former president along with an NBA logo and the caption “America In Crisis … Obama counseled Chris Paul, LeBron James amid NBA protest.” Just a wee bit of ridiculous melodrama here?

SBNation’s Ricky O’Donnell reported that during their Wednesday-Friday meltdown and playoff game boycotts last week, NBA players had a tense meeting to decide the next steps to maintain their Black Lives Matter focus. Some angry players wanted to throw in the towel on the season. LeBron James, Chris Paul and a few other player/protesters appealed to an elder basketball statesman — former President Barack Obama — for wisdom and direction.

Obama advised the players to return to the courts, resume the playoffs and to start an NBA social justice coalition. Katie Hill, an Obama spokesman, gave a statement to CNN about his high-level basketball summit with NBA social justice warriors:

“As an avid basketball fan, President Obama speaks regularly with players and league officials. When asked, he was happy to provide advice on Wednesday night to a small group of NBA players seeking to leverage their immense platforms for good after their brave and inspiring strike in the wake of Jacob Blake’s shooting.

“They discussed establishing a social justice committee to ensure that the players’ and league’s actions this week led to sustained, meaningful engagement on criminal justice and police reform.”

Thank God the ex-president wasn’t encumbered by any heads of state contacting him for counsel on world affairs and his calendar was free to advise NBA leaders on the state of basketball. Especially in this “American crisis.”

After counsel with that lofty source of basketball and social justice wisdom, the NBA playoffs did resume Saturday. Now that the dust has settled and the social justice snowflakes have had their tantrum, cleared their collective heads and determined a future course, here’s what they decided to do.

The NBA will form a social justice coalition that will seek to increase voting access, engage in civic involvement and work for police and prison reform. Team governors will work with election officials to turn their arenas into polling places on Election Day. All of this has the full approval of along-for-the-ride NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.

Capping the NBA’s great weekend of social justice decision-making at Disney World, James received a letter from Kaepernick expressing his appreciation to the Lakers star and unofficial director of the NBA for furthering the Marxist-inspired Black Lives Matter anthem kneeling movement he started in 2016:

“Four years ago on August 14, 2016, I began protesting against systemic racism and social injustice. Truth is what I sought. Solidarity is what you showed me. Love is what moves us forward.

”Thank you for staying with me.”

It’s ironic that Kaepernick’s name came up in connection to the NBA story now because more and more professional athletes are looking and acting like him with each passing week.

Pittsburgh Heckler to Biden, “Hey Joe, You Finally Got Out of the Basement!”

Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden made a campaign stop in Pittsburgh Monday where he gave a speech and visited a fire station where he delivered pizzas.

When Biden arrived at the fire station, he was heckled as he stepped out of a Secret Service vehicle by a man reportedly waving a Trump flag who was standing on a truck just down the street, “Hey Joe, you finally got out of the basement!”

The heckler said a couple things difficult to hear on video but Biden, still quick on his feet at 77, heard and replied to the heckler, “Don’t jump! Don’t jump! Don’t jump!”

The heckler proceeded to lambaste Biden about his reversal on banning fracking. Biden campaigned on banning fracking but now says he is against a ban.

The incident was posted to Twitter by Bloomberg reporter Tyler Pager, “Biden was being heckled by a Trump supporter as he arrived to deliver pizzas. The man was waving a Trump flag as he stood on top of a truck. Biden’s response to him: “Don’t jump.”

Biden said in his speech Monday that President Trump is lying when he says Biden wants to ban fracking:

In response to Biden, the Trump campaign posted a video compilation by Americans for Tax Reform of Biden campaigning on banning fracking and fossil fuels.

Biden Says Today: “Do I Look Like a Radical Socialist with a Soft Spot For Rioters?” – After His VP Pick Kamala Harris Helped Bail Rioters Out of Jail (VIDEO)

77-year-old Joe Biden left his basement on Monday and traveled to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for a campaign speech.

After remaining silent for months, Biden came out on Monday and blamed Trump for the left-wing violence happening in Democrat-run states and cities.

Biden laughably tried to look like a tough ‘law and order’ candidate.

“Ask yourself, do I look like a radical socialist with a soft spot for rioters? Really?” Biden said. “I want a safe America…”

Perhaps a reporter should ask Biden about his own VP pick Kamala Harris helping bail rioters out of jail.

In June, Kamala Harris tweeted out a link to a nonprofit to help bail rioters out of jail.

Biden’s campaign staffers donated to a non-profit that helped bail violent criminals out of jail.

A Minnesota non-profit dubbed “Minnesota Freedom Fund” received $35 million in donations during the George Floyd riots and Biden’s campaign staffers were among the people who made substantial donations.

Here is just a few of the violent criminals Biden’s team (including Kamala Harris) helped bail out of jail:

Darnika Floyd is an accused murderer who was in jail for stabbing a man to death.

Jaleel Stallings is an attempted cop killer who was in jail for firing at police during the George Floyd riots.

Donovan Boone is a violent fugitive who was in jail for breaking and entering and attempting to strangle his ex-girlfriend.

Christopher Boswell is a serial rapist who was in jail on sexual assault and kidnapping charges.

Evening Brief: ‘Deep’ disappointments and dose deals

Ontario Premier Doug Ford is now facing a second lawsuit over changes his Conservative government has made to the province’s environmental assessment process — without any public consultation. Today, the Canadian Environmental Law Association filed a legal action on behalf of: conservation group Earthroots; non-profit Ontario Nature; a 16-year-old climate activist named Cooper Price; and Michel Koostachin, who was born and raised in Attawapiskat, a First Nations community in northern Ontario. As the National Observer reports, there have been a flurry of court challenges of Bill 197. The government passed the bill last month without holding public consultations, which are required under Ontario’s Environmental Bill of Rights.

“Does anyone believe there will be less violence in America if Donald Trump is re-elected?” That’s the question Democratic nominee Joe Biden put to a Pittsburgh crowd in a speech today. Biden called Trump a president who “sows chaos” and blamed him for the violence during mass protests against racial injustice this summer. Biden said the president has lost control of the country, has spent years stoking racial tensions, and “long ago” forfeited “any moral leadership in this country.” Politico reports.

Trump wasted no time in responding, accusing Biden of “blaming the Police far more than he’s blaming the Rioters, Anarchists, Agitators, and Looters, which he could never blame or he would lose the Radical Left Bernie supports!”

Meanwhile, Kenosha is on edge as Trump’s visit looms. As the Associated Press reports, some residents fear that the visit, which coincides with tension and unrest over the police shooting of Jacob Blake, may cause more violence and destruction in the southeastern Wisconsin city after several days of peace. The city’s mayor also said he believed Trump’s visit comes at a bad time.

The saga of Michael Flynn continues to drag on in the courts. Trump’s national security adviser suffered a setback today when a federal appeals court refused to toss his matter and dismiss the charges against him, overturning an earlier decision that would have allowed the department of justice to drop its case against him. The circuit court also denied Flynn’s request that the judge overseeing his case recuse himself.

As you’ll recall, Flynn pleaded guilty in 2017 to lying to the FBI about his conversations with the Russian ambassador to the U.S., and agreed to co-operate with the special counsel’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. In the last year, he had a change of heart, backed out of the plea agreement, hired a firebrand conservative lawyer and disavowed his guilty plea, moving to fight the charges instead. More from the Hill.

‘Zombie’ Herman Cain Tweets That Coronavirus ‘Not As Deadly’ As Media Said

The Twitter account formerly used by the late Herman Cain fired off a head-scratching message on Sunday, insisting that the coronavirus “isn’t as deadly” as once thought.

Cain died in July at the age of 74 after being hospitalized for more than a month with the COVID-19 infection.

His Twitter account ― now run by his family and social media managers ― tweeted:

Adam Schiff Calls Out Trump And Putin’s Effort To Hide Election Rigging

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff said that Trump is trying to cover-up Russia’s efforts to pick the next president.

Schiff said on CNN:

That’s the biggest issue, Jim, is how will it affect the American people. I think the answer is if they’re allowed to do this, basically shut off the flow of information, the American people are not going to find out the full extent of efforts made to choose their president for them by foreign powers and particularly by Russia. So it has a real impact. You know, if the American people are brought into the confidence of the intelligence community and are told, okay, this is what Russia is doing, this is how they’re trying to influence you, it really weakens the power of foreign nations to meddle in our affairs.

But that’s something the president is willing to accede to. He wants the help. He’s made that clear over the years. He wants whatever help he can get. He doesn’t believe that he can beat Joe Biden in a fair election. And he doesn’t want the American people to learn what Russia is doing on his behalf. The reliance on written information is wholly insufficient. We’ve seen the problem with that before where documents can be wordsmithed, they can technically accurate but be completely misleading of the and without the ability to question intelligence officials and without the ability to sometimes put them under oath and make sure we get the full answers, we can’t be confident that either congress or the American people are going to find out what foreign nations are doing to influence their vote.

Chairman Schiff was right. The Russian election interference loses its power when it is exposed as an illegal foreign effort to steal an election from the American people and hand it to Donald Trump. Trump is engaging in a cover-up by denying Congress election security briefings.

The goal is to keep the American people in the dark because if they see the Russian interference for what it is, they will reject Donald Trump.

Joe Biden: Please Spare Us the JPII Quotes until You Get with the Gospel of Life

Pope John Paul II at his installation in 1978

This election season is just going to get more and more absurd. Today Joe Biden quoted John Paul II. “Be not afraid,” which comes from his inaugural homily as pontiff in 1978. The context was:

Brothers and sisters, do not be afraid to welcome Christ and accept his power. Help the Pope and all those who wish to serve Christ and with Christ’s power to serve the human person and the whole of mankind. Do not be afraid. Open wide the doors for Christ. To his saving power open the boundaries of States, economic and political systems, the vast fields of culture, civilization and development. Do not be afraid. Christ knows “what is in man”. He alone knows it.

So often today man does not know what is within him, in the depths of his mind and heart. So often he is uncertain about the meaning of his life on this earth. He is assailed by doubt, a doubt which turns into despair. We ask you therefore, we beg you with humility and trust, let Christ speak to man. He alone has words of life, yes, of eternal life.

Let’s talk about life, quoting John Paul II again, from his 1995 encyclical, Evangelium Vitae:

Every individual, precisely by reason of the mystery of the Word of God who was made flesh (cf. Jn 1:14), is entrusted to the maternal care of the Church. Therefore every threat to human dignity and life must necessarily be felt in the Church’s very heart; it cannot but affect her at the core of her faith in the Redemptive Incarnation of the Son of God, and engage her in her mission of proclaiming the Gospel of life in all the world and to every creature (cf. Mk 16:15).

Today this proclamation is especially pressing because of the extraordinary increase and gravity of threats to the life of individuals and peoples, especially where life is weak and defenseless. In addition to the ancient scourges of poverty, hunger, endemic diseases, violence and war, new threats are emerging on an alarmingly vast scale.

The Second Vatican Council, in a passage which retains all its relevance today, forcefully condemned a number of crimes and attacks against human life. Thirty years later, taking up the words of the Council and with the same forcefulness I repeat that condemnation in the name of the whole Church, certain that I am interpreting the genuine sentiment of every upright conscience: “Whatever is opposed to life itself, such as any type of murder, genocide, abortion, euthanasia, or wilful self-destruction, whatever violates the integrity of the human person, such as mutilation, torments inflicted on body or mind, attempts to coerce the will itself; whatever insults human dignity, such as subhuman living conditions, arbitrary imprisonment, deportation, slavery, prostitution, the selling of women and children; as well as disgraceful working conditions, where people are treated as mere instruments of gain rather than as free and responsible persons; all these things and others like them are infamies indeed. They poison human society, and they do more harm to those who practice them than to those who suffer from the injury. Moreover, they are a supreme dishonor to the Creator”.5

Unfortunately, this disturbing state of affairs, far from decreasing, is expanding: with the new prospects opened up by scientific and technological progress there arise new forms of attacks on the dignity of the human being. At the same time a new cultural climate is developing and taking hold, which gives crimes against life a new and-if possible-even more sinister character, giving rise to further grave concern: broad sectors of public opinion justify certain crimes against life in the name of the rights of individual freedom, and on this basis they claim not only exemption from punishment but even authorization by the State, so that these things can be done with total freedom and indeed with the free assistance of health-care systems.

All this is causing a profound change in the way in which life and relationships between people are considered. The fact that legislation in many countries, perhaps even departing from basic principles of their Constitutions, has determined not to punish these practices against life, and even to make them altogether legal, is both a disturbing symptom and a significant cause of grave moral decline. Choices once unanimously considered criminal and rejected by the common moral sense are gradually becoming socially acceptable. Even certain sectors of the medical profession, which by its calling is directed to the defense and care of human life, are increasingly willing to carry out these acts against the person. In this way the very nature of the medical profession is distorted and contradicted, and the dignity of those who practice it is degraded. In such a cultural and legislative situation, the serious demographic, social and family problems which weigh upon many of the world’s peoples and which require responsible and effective attention from national and international bodies, are left open to false and deceptive solutions, opposed to the truth and the good of persons and nations.

The end result of this is tragic: not only is the fact of the destruction of so many human lives still to be born or in their final stage extremely grave and disturbing, but no less grave and disturbing is the fact that conscience itself, darkened as it were by such widespread conditioning, is finding it increasingly difficult to distinguish between good and evil in what concerns the basic value of human life.

Yes, be not afraid to accept the teachings of Christ and the Catholic Church in which you were baptized and whose tenets and doctrines you profess to believe. Do not use and abuse the words of the magisterium of the Catholic faith but to be challenged by them. As you can see from this, John Paul II considered there to be more to the pro-life, Gospel of Life picture than simply making sure babies aren’t aborted. But we cannot abort! Innocent, vulnerable human life! Protect! I grieve when I hear Joe Biden talk this way because he should know better. Don’t use the Catholic faith to push the abortion agenda that is rotten to the core and part of the reason we are where we are today, so miserable and violent and often making no natural sense. Abortion is the opposite of health care, the opposite of love, the opposite of life. It kills. And it has hurt so many people, so many families, so many women. Joe Biden, please give John Paul II’s Gospel of Life a read instead of using him as cover for your gravely poisonous position on abortion.
